BA Holds Navy to A Close Game

The football team started off the weekend with a home game against the Naval Academy Prep School. It was a very hard fought battle for the Bridgton Academy Wolverines as they lost a close game. Navy is Bridgton's only opponent this season that prepared just as hard as the Wolverines did this week. The final score was 33-30 and proved to be an exciting but tough game to swallow as many of Bridgton's players experienced a new level of commitment, intensity, and love for the game of football. Running Back Daryl Shuler (Peekskill, NY) said post game "I have never been in a game like situation where everything came down to the wire".
On defense Troy Moore (Worcester, MA) had a great game with twelve total tackles, ten of which were solo. Jeremy Leggerio (Bohemia, NY) had twelve tackles as well. Derek Karr (Littleton, MA) stepped up with 14 total tackles, ten which were solo, and three for loss of yardage, as well as two sacs. Sir-Tay Jackson (New Rochelle, NY) was a key player with four tackles (one for loss) and an 82-yard interception.
Bridgton introduced the "wild wolverine" package which allowed the skilled player Michael Allen (Chandler, AZ) to take control of the Offense at the Quarter Back position and make plays during the game. Allen had eight rushes for 52-yards and a touchdown. Other key offensive players included Daryl Shuler (Peekskill, NY) who had 13 rushes for 85-yards and a touchdown. Stephen Sweeney (Mahwah, NJ) had two receptions for 81-yards and tallied another touchdown for the Wolverines. Quarterback Jacob Grills had 111-total yards of offense with two touchdowns (one rushing and one throwing).
“This week our execution was much improved. I am a perfectionist so I see that we still have a ways to go but our level of intensity was perhaps the biggest improvement we saw. The team played hard for four quarters. We just need to eliminate the mistakes that hurt us,” said Coach Marcella.

The team will play at home next weekend for Parents Weekend. They will face St. Anselm College at 1:00 P.M. on Sunday October 10th.
